HKSAI Launches 2026–2030 Strategic Plan – Empowering Adolescents Across

On the remarkable day of celebration, 28th November, 2025, HKSAI officially launched its 2026-2030 Strategic Plan, marking its milestone in its mission to uplift and empower adolescent living in informal settlements. The event was a big celebration that marked the five-year anniversary of the Hope for Kenya Slum Adolescence Initiative (HKSAI), where Board of Directors, staff, partners, donors, and beneficiaries came together to officially launch the new 2026–2030 strategic plan. The Chairperson Board of Directors Ms. Eunice Murambi introduced the board members and acknowledged their oversight and critical role in HKSAI’s success. Board members, including Kevin Owino Okwero and Raila Opany, reflected their 5-year journey, emphasizing discipline, integrity, and commitment as key to achieving HKSAI’s mission. The Chairperson emphasized on the collaborative force of both staff and board in driving HKSAI’s programs, ensuring accountability, and guiding strategic growth.

Dr. Melvine Ouyo, Founder and Executive director speaking during the event, shared the organization’s journey since 2020, highlighting its health- and education-focused programs. She detailed HKSAI’s response to challenges faced by adolescents in informal settlements, including period poverty, education, health, early pregnancy, unemployment, and lack of opportunities. Projects highlighted included:
- HKSAI Training Center: Providing computer literacy programs, Beauty & Hairdressing, and health training to adolescents.
- SRHR Education: Partnering with foundations to teach menstrual health and reproductive rights.
- Economic Empowerment: Equipping girls and young women with skills to achieve financial independence.
Melvin emphasized that “the strategic plan 2026-2030 is more than a document. it is a commitment, promise, and roadmap to deliver measurable impact across all communities served.”









During Strategic Planning Launch 2026-2030
The Special guests from partner organization from civil society, gender, and youth networks acknowledged HKSAI’s contributions in health, education, and gender equality. Damaklin Bonareri Mose from youth African Youth Panel and Scholastika Nkoitoi State Department of Gender & Affirmative Action shared their support for mentorship, advocacy, and youth empowerment initiatives. Ms. Benadine, The Uasin Civil Society Network commended HKSAI for reaching over 15,000 indirect beneficiaries and encouraged continued collaboration to leave no girl behind.

The event featured an inspiring speech by our chief guest, Mr. Joseph Wasihongo, National Coordinator of Elimu Yetu Coalition. He commended HKSAI for its dedication, community-driven approach, and tangible impact in implementing its first strategic plan. He highlighted the organization’s holistic approach addressing education, health, mental well-being, child protection, and socioeconomic empowerment for both girls and boys reaching.

Throughout the day, speakers highlighted HKSAI' s journey since its founding in 2020, emphasizing their mission to empower adolescent girls (and now boys too) in Kenyan informal settlements through education, health, and economic opportunities.

The team through Ms. Brenda Robi shared about their new focus on two main pillars education and health and shared stories and videos showing the impact of their work, like providing sanitary pads, supporting scholarships, and running training programs in digital skills and Hairdressing & Beauty.Key themes included tackling period poverty, boosting mental health and reproductive health education, and expanding opportunities for young people by giving them practical skills and scholarships. The importance of partnerships, sustainable funding, and collective commitment was discussed by various leaders, including the Founder/Executive Director. Dr Melvine Ouyo and the Board of Director Ms. Eunice Murambi. The strategic plan aims to sharpen HKSAI' s focus, deepen their positive impact, and reach even more youth over the next five years.




The day closed with lots of gratitude for everyone’s support, a sense of pride in past achievements, the ceremonial ribbon cutting, and a strong call by Operations Manager Mr. Emmanuel for ongoing collaboration to keep improving lives in Kenya’s informal settlements.
The launch of the 2026–2030 Strategic Plan is a call to action for partners, donors, staff, and communities to work collaboratively in scaling HKSAI’s programs. HKSAI aims to expand its reach, strengthen partnerships, and ensure sustainable impact for adolescents across Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu, Uasin Gishu, and Busia Counties.
