HKSAI Partners with Stakeholders in Kibera to Mark International Women’s Day 2026

Hope for Kenya Slum Adolescents Initiative (HKSAI) has joined other community stakeholders under the Kibera Gender Advocacy Network (KGAN) in preparations to commemorate International Women’s Day 2026, guided by the official theme “Rights. Justice. Action. For ALL Women and Girls.”

The theme emphasizes the urgent need to bridge the gap between legal rights and practical justice for women and girls. Despite progress made globally, many women and girls continue to face challenges such as discriminatory laws, gender-based violence, economic inequality, and limited access to justice. The theme also aligns with the global discussions of the 70th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW70), which calls for bold and practical actions to ensure that no woman or girl is left behind.

As part of the planning process, HKSAI is collaborating with a range of community Based organizations and institutions that have participated in preparatory meetings. These include Mirror of Hope CBO (MOH), CICAD Kenya, KCERT, CREAW, KASA Media, Amani Kibera, NCCG, Umande Trust, LLWF, VIBE, OCF, Haki Group, Shofco Kibera, Kibera Law Court & Chief Asia’s Office, Vumilia Disabled, and ElevateHer among other partners.

The International Women’s Day commemoration is scheduled for Saturday, 7th March 2026, and will feature a variety of activities aimed at promoting gender equality and justice within the community.

Planned Activities

The event will include several community-centered activities such as:

  • Solidarity visits to survivors of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and women’s safe spaces
  • A community awareness walk promoting justice, dignity, and equality
  • Panel discussions focusing on women’s rights, access to justice, and policy gaps
  • Legal aid and health service exhibition booths
  • Testimonies and lived experiences shared by community members
  • Cultural performances promoting dignity and gender equality
  • Recognition and celebration of outstanding women leaders and advocates in the community

Through collaboration, advocacy, and service delivery, this year’s commemoration seeks to move beyond dialogue into practical action, ensuring that women’s rights are protected and that justice is accessible to all—especially women and girls living in marginalized communities.

HKSAI remains committed to working alongside partners to promote dignity, protection, leadership, and equal opportunities for every woman and girl.

International Women's Day

During the planning meetings, HKSAI was represented by Timothy Wesonga, whose dedication and commitment to youth and community development is highly appreciated. His active participation reflects HKSAI’s continued efforts to champion gender equality and inclusive community progress.

As stakeholders come together for this important commemoration, the message remains clear: turn Rights into Reality, Justice into Practice, and Action into Impact for all women and girls.
