Dignity in every drop Pads Drive video

In many informal settlements, adolescent girls face the harsh reality of period poverty—lacking access to menstrual hygiene products.

This is a menstrual health and hygiene project, with the objective of providing sanitary pads to reduce school absenteeism, promote gender equity in education, and raise awareness on menstrual health & hygiene. This is an ongoing project with the aim of raising enough Sanitary Pads to share with girls in need monthly.

The adolescents girls face quiet struggles, shame, and many choose to stay silent because they can not afford sanitary pads. Many adolescent girls do not have access to sanitary pads, and they opt to use rags, old mattresses, or tissues, which are unsafe and unhygienic to their reproductive health. Due to this, they acquire infections, and shame in case of spotting, which makes them lose confidence. On extreme occasions, some drop out of school, causing their dreams to end. Some are taken advantage of, making them get unwanted pregnancies, leaving them to become young women in their teenage years. These are the painful realities that most vulnerable adolescent girls face.

This video shares their story of the realities that young girls and women face in informal settlements. As HKSAI, we are taking this action to support the vulnerable adolescent girls by launching the Sanitary Pad Drive and creating awareness about menstrual health and Hygiene. We are collecting sanitary pads from kind-hearted people like you in public and distribute them to vulnerable girls in informal settlements.

Through this Menstrual Health and Hygiene project, we aim to

  • Distribute sanitary pads to girls in need.
  • Reduce school absenteeism among adolescent girls caused by menstrual challenges.
  • Promote gender equality in access to quality education.
  • Increase awareness of menstrual health and hygiene.
