Strengthening Mental Health Support Through Partnerships

A Shared Commitment to Mental Well-Being

Mental health continues to be one of the most pressing issues affecting children and young people today. Addressing these challenges requires collective effort, innovative solutions, and strong partnerships. Today provided an opportunity to strengthen these efforts through engagements with key stakeholders committed to improving the well-being of young people.

Engaging SOS Children's Villages on School-Based Mental Health Programs

We were privileged to host a team from SOS Children's Villages, one of our valued partners, for a productive engagement on their upcoming mental health program in Uasin Gishu County.

The discussions focused on exploring opportunities for collaboration and identifying ways the program can be effectively integrated into existing school-based interventions. The meeting provided a platform to exchange ideas, share experiences, and discuss practical approaches to supporting learners' mental and emotional well-being.

Among the recommendations shared was the establishment of a toll-free helpline that learners can access whenever they require mental health support and counselling. Such a service would offer a safe, confidential, and accessible avenue for young people seeking help during difficult moments.

Creating Accessible Support for Learners

The participants emphasized the importance of ensuring that mental health services are readily available to learners both within and beyond the school environment. By working in strengthening referral pathways and expanding access to counselling services, schools can play a important role in fostering resilience and promoting positive mental health outcomes among children and adolescents.

The engagement was insightful and productive, and plans are already underway for a follow-up meeting next week to identify schools where the partnership can be implemented.

Learning and Sharing with World Relief Kenya

Later in the day, we welcomed representatives from World Relief Kenya, Lodwar, who visited the youth center to benchmark on the activities and programs being implemented.

The visit provided an opportunity to showcase ongoing interventions while facilitating meaningful conversations around the mental health challenges facing young people. The discussions explored the various social, economic, and personal factors that contribute to mental health concerns and highlighted the need for comprehensive and responsive support systems.

Strengthening Youth-Focused Interventions

The exchange of ideas reinforced a shared commitment to strengthening interventions that address the mental health needs of young people. Through collaboration, learning, and the sharing of best practices, organizations can enhance their capacity to provide effective support and create safe spaces where young people can thrive.

The benchmarking visit also underscored the importance of partnerships in driving sustainable change and ensuring that young people receive the support they need to navigate life's challenges successfully.

Collaborating for Lasting Change

The day's engagements demonstrated the value of collaboration in advancing mental health initiatives for children and young people. As partnerships continue to grow, so does the potential to create lasting impact through innovative programs, accessible services, and strengthened support networks.

We extend our sincere appreciation to SOS Children's Villages and World Relief Kenya for their commitment to promoting mental well-being and supporting the holistic development of young people. Together, we are taking meaningful steps toward building healthier, more resilient communities.
